Hugo De La Torre, bilingual Audiology Assistant at The Hearing Guy in Asheville, North Carolina

Clear hearing care depends on clear communication. For Spanish-speaking patients and families in Western North Carolina, asking questions and understanding hearing care options should feel comfortable from the first conversation.

That is one reason Hugo De La Torre is such an important part of The Hearing Guy team.

Meet Hugo De La Torre

Hugo De La Torre, bilingual Audiology Assistant at The Hearing Guy in Asheville, North Carolina

Hugo grew up in the Asheville area and graduated from A.C. Reynolds High School. Before joining The Hearing Guy, he worked as a medical interpreter for Spanish-speaking patients. That experience taught him how much it matters for people to understand what is happening, why it matters, and what their choices are.

Today, Hugo serves as an Audiology Assistant. He supports communication with Spanish-speaking patients and families and helps patients know what to expect during a hearing care visit. Learn more about Hugo and his role at The Hearing Guy.

Outside the clinic, Hugo and his fiancée, Abbie, a registered nurse, coach little league baseball in the community. It is the same neighbor-helping-neighbor spirit he brings to work each day.

Why bilingual hearing care matters

Hearing evaluations and hearing aid care involve detailed conversations. Patients need room to describe what they are experiencing, ask questions, and understand recommendations. When a language barrier gets in the way, important details can be missed.

Having a bilingual team member available can help patients describe concerns in the language that feels most natural, help families understand what to expect, and make questions about testing, hearing aids, and follow-up care easier to discuss.

What to expect at The Hearing Guy

Every patient receives a thorough, personal approach. A visit may include a conversation about hearing concerns, an evaluation when appropriate, and a review of options based on the patient’s hearing, daily life, preferences, and budget.

Hugo supports Spanish-speaking patients and families at our Asheville and Hendersonville locations. His role is to make the conversation clearer and the experience more comfortable.
